LICHEN PLANUS CHELSEA

Skin, nails, hair, and mucous membrane swelling, and irritation are caused by lichen planus. When it affects the skin, it typically takes weeks for it to manifest as a flat, purplish bump. Lichen planus produces a lacy white patch in the vagina, tongue, and other mucous membrane-covered areas. It can also cause painful sores.

Without medical attention, mild cases of lichen planus can be treated at home. You might need to see your doctor for prescription medication, though, if the condition is causing you any pain or severe itching. There is no spread of lichen planus.

LICHEN PLANUS- WHEN SHOULD I SEE THE DOCTOR?

You should consult a doctor if you notice small pimples or rashes on your skin that don’t go away, such as those caused by poison ivy contact or known allergic reactions. Additionally, if you experience any genital, scalp, mouth, or nail lichen planus symptoms, get in touch with your physician.

Numerous mucosal and skin conditions can result in lesions and discomfort, so we advise you to get a quick and accurate diagnosis and treatment.

LICHEN PLANUS- CAUSES, RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS

Usually, lichen planus develops when your immune system targets the mucous membranes or skin cells. Research has not yet revealed the cause of this aberrant immune response. Furthermore, this illness cannot be spread to other people.

Lichen Planus Causes Risks and Complications

The most common causes of lichen planus are as follows:

  • Infection with hepatitis C
  • Vaccination against flu
  • Certain drugs used to treat high blood pressure, arthritis, or heart disease
  • A few metals, chemicals, and pigments
  • Analgesics such as naproxen (Aleve, etc.) and ibuprofen (Advil Motrin IB, etc.)

Managing lichen planus is typically most difficult when it affects the vulva and vagina. It occasionally leaves scars and can cause excruciating pain. Sexual dysfunction is typically the result of genital lichen planus.

Particularly in those with darker skin tones, lichen planus on the skin causes the skin to become slightly darker even after the rashes disappear. It interferes with eating when it manifests as an oral sore.

Oral cancer risk is higher in those with oral lichen planus. Lichen planus of the ear can result in hearing loss if left untreated.

Although lichen planus can affect anyone, middle-aged adults are most likely to develop the condition. The majority of people with oral lichen planus are middle-aged women.
