INVISALIGN: HOW DOES IT WORK?
With Invisalign, patients can gradually reposition their teeth by using sets of aligners that are created using computer-generated images and impressions of their mouths. Invisalign uses a series of moulds that, over the course of several months, align the patient’s teeth into their new and improved position, however a traditional brace (using fixed metal wires) achieves the same goal. Depending on the degree of alignment required, the entire Invisalign treatment typically takes six to twelve months.
INVISABLE BRACES AND METAL BRACES
Invisalign and the traditional steel braces are intended for ensuring the correct positioning of the teeth!
While dentists and orthodontists have been using traditional braces for many years, invisible braces were developed to cater to the demands of today’s society. While there are certain similarities between them, their differences are much greater.
-
Convenience
While the invisible braces can be taken out whenever necessary (a few hours a day), the metal braces are cemented to the teeth with wires and cannot be taken out.
-
Visibility
Due to their composition of metal wires and elastic bands, traditional metal braces are easily noticeable. Because Invisalign is composed of transparent, BPA-free plastic, it is nearly invisible.
-
Diet
Hard, crunchy, and sticky foods should be avoided by patients wearing metal braces as they may damage the wires and lessen the treatment’s effectiveness. Soft drink avoidance is the main requirement for patients wearing invisible braces.

-
Hygiene
Patients wearing metal braces are advised to brush and floss their teeth on a regular basis. In order to prevent bacteria from attacking the tooth enamel, this keeps food particles away from the braces. Patients who opt for invisible braces, on the other hand, can continue with their regular dental hygiene regimen.
-
Treatment Length
Compared to traditional metal braces, which typically require patients to wear them for two years, Invisalign patients typically only need to wear them for six to eighteen months. This means that the Invisalign process is much shorter.
-
Cost
Invisalign braces initially tend to be slightly more expensive than traditional metal braces.
THE INVISALIGN JORUNEY!
-
First Consultation
The dentist invites patients to the office for a brief in-person conversation at the first consultation stage. The conversation mostly centres on topics like how Invisalign functions and how much it will probably cost that specific patient.
-
X-rays and Mappings
These are typically performed during the first consultation following the patient’s decision to proceed with the course of therapy. These pictures aid in providing the patient’s Invisalign aligners (or tray) based on the impressions of their teeth.
-
Preparatory Work
To enable Invisalign’s clear aligners to grip and move each tooth, some patients may need to have tiny composite patches placed to each one. The amount of interproximal reduction necessary varies from patient to patient as another aspect of the preparatory work. When a patient has a packed mouth, this procedure is simply used to create more space between teeth.
-
First Fitting
During their visit to the preparatory work alone, patients get to feel their Invisalign braces for the first time. When you first put it on, it feels very tight. However, it’s normal, and it gradually becomes more comfortable!
-
Changing the Invisalign Braces
Depending on the dentist’s judgement, the invisible braces can be changed in a week or two. The time may be extended if the teeth have not moved to the intended position. Every new aligner is made to cause the teeth to move towards the desired alignment goal by guiding their movement in the intended direction.
